Schools within lower income areas of Chattanooga face educational disparities such as lower grades, lower test scores, and not as many in and out of school opportunities. Students facing poverty, housing instability, and food insecurity are all affected by this. “ProPublica has found that in school districts across the country, Black and Hispanic students are, on average, less likely to be selected for gifted programs and take AP courses than their white peers. They are also more likely, on average, to be suspended and expelled.”(propublica). Schools our parent organization "Global Excel" has partnered with in the past include East Lake Academy and Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy they held STEM classes to teach students important skills. Our most recent initiative for addressing educational disparities in Chattanooga is our project "Digital Literacy". We are partnered with Opportunity High to teach essential technological skills such as desktop tools, word processing, how to use Microsoft Office and many other important computer skills that the students need for everyday life and for the workforce.
