Hi everyone! Today was our third full day of the trip, which we spent both in Ferry and at Trenchtown. We started the day as usual with breakfast at 7:15. I ate chicken Alfredo that was leftover from dinner and gave my chicken pieces to Sarge. When we got to Ferry, we spent the morning getting to know the primary school children. Although a few of the children I had really made friends with at the Basic School weren’t there today, it was still really nice getting to spend time with those who were there as well as the older children. We ate lunch around 12, which was marked by an entourage of kids swarming the bus and chanting Tova’s name. Afterwards we traveled to Trenchtown, where we visited Garfield , one of Mrs. Joli’s longtime friends, at his art studio. We even got to make pottery with a few local children who come to him for classes. I came out with a very handy trinket holder in the form of Bob Marley with a Rastafarian hat. Almost adjacent to Garfield’s studio, is the Home for the Aged. Which was an aspect of the trip that I had heard so much about from previous trippers as well as Mrs. Joli. Getting to talk to Mr. Rudy and hear Mr. Keith’s famous singing is probably my favorite “wait and see” experience of the trip so far. As someone who has grown up living with her grandparents, being able to bond with individuals who have met so many other visitors over something as simple as singing and Ensure drinks was amazing. I am extremely excited for tomorrow and can’t wait to show everyone all of the first hand vlogs that are on my camera when we get back!
